The Latin American Challenge - Social Cohesion and Democracy

On Wednesday, Februaru 13, sociologist Bernardo Sorj made a presentation at CADAL's office on the subject of his last book ''The Latin American Challenge - Social Cohesion and Democracy''.

Bernardo Sorj ( www.bernardosorj.com ), is Uruguayan and director of Centro Edelstein de Investigaciones Sociales. He also serves as professor at Universidad Federal de Río de Janeiro. He was visiting professor at several European and American universities, heading, among other positions, the Sérgio Buarque de Holanda chair at Maison des Sciences de l'Homme and the Simón Bolívar chair at Institut des Hautes Études de l'Amerique Latine. He is author of more than a hundred articles and 20 books published in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. Among his most recent books are: La Democracia Inesperada (Buenos Aires.Prometo/Bonagno, 2004), brazil@digitaldivide.com - Confronting Inequality in the Information Society (UNESCO, 2003), A Nova Sociedade Brasileira, (Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Zahar, 2000), Internet y Pobreza (Montevideo, Trilice/UNESCO, 2006) and A Construção Intelectual do Brasil Contemporâneo (Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Zahar, 2002).
