Brazil: the new global player

The main subject of number 27 of Perspectiva magazine is entitled “Brazil: the new global player”, and seeks to sheed a light on the positive and negative aspects of a growing country, analyzing its main opportunities and the main challenges that this Latin American nation faces. Several members of CADAL collaborated in this issue: Sérgio Fausto, Eduardo Viola, Héctor Leis, Matías Franchini, María Laura Depetris and Gabriel Salvia, the latter with an interview to former president of Brazil, Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Perspectiva magazine is edited by Instituto de Ciencia Política de Colombia with the support of several associated institutes from different countries, like CADAL, responsible for the diffussion and distribution in Uruguay.

The main subject of number 27 of Perspectiva magazine is entitled “Brazil: the new global player”, and seeks to sheed a light on the positive and negative aspects of a growing country, analyzing its main opportunities and the main challenges that this Latin American nation faces.

Number 27 of Perspectiva magazine includes a dossier with articles analyzing from different points of view of wellkown Brazilian, Argentine, Colombian and Venezuelan academics, writers and diplomats the situation of Brasil regarding the political, economic and social aspects. Among others these are Sergio Fausto, Brazilian political scientist, executive director of Instituto Fernando Henrique Cardoso and director de Plataforma Democrática; Alessandro Candeas, Minister-Counselor of the Brazilian Embassy in Colombia; Héctor Ricardo Leis and Eduardo Viola, members of CADAL's Academic Council in Argentina; Eduardo Pastrana Buelvas, Colombian, director of the International Relations department at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and editor of the magazine Papel Político; Matías Franchini, Argentine political scientist; Norman Gall, executive director of Instituto Fernand Braudel de Economía Mundial and editor of Braudel Papers; María Teresa Romero, Venezuelan political scientist, and finally an interview to former president of Brazil, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, by Gabriel Salvia.

In the Latin America , María Laura Depetris, writer at ww.analisislatino.com analyzes the Interamerican Democratic Charter a decade after its signature, and former guerrilla man from Colombia Felipe Salazar draws a profile of his former boss, Alfonso Cano. In the section World, Carlos Alberto Montaner, Cuban journalist, compares Gadafi with Raúl Castro.

In the section Themes & Debates Observatorio de Política y Estrategia en América Latina (Opeal) analyze the new dimension that the environmental problem has regarding secutiry; on the other hand, former Chilean Minister Alvaro García debates on how to reform the role of the state in the process of economic development. Finally, in the books section, there is a review of Mr. Lippman goes to Habana, by Alberto López-Hermida, José Carlos Pérez and Ángel Soto.

Perspectiva is edited by Instituto de Ciencia Política de Colombia and has the support of several organizatinos from different countries, like CADAL, responsible for its distribution and diffussion in Uruguay.
