Sustainable Development

The 29th edition of the magazine Perspectiva presents a balanced report of the debates over sustainable development, the need to consider political, economic, and social concerns in order to make sustainability possible, and the consequences of adopting (or not) this model for several Latin American countries. For this edition, Perspectiva consulted several preeminent analysts, including Carolina Jaramillo Aguirrezábal (Colombia), technical coordinator for Global Environment of the IADB; Francisco Javier Burgos (Dominican Republic), specialist in energy and sustainable development for the OAS; Luiz Carlos Correa Carvalho (Brazil), President of the Brazilian Association of Agrobusiness; and Matías A. Franchini (Argentina), Associated Researcher for the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin American, in Argentina.

The 29th edition of the magazine Perspectiva presents a balanced report of the debates over sustainable development, the need to consider political, economic, and social concerns in order to make sustainability possible, and the consequences of adopting (or not) this model for several Latin American countries. In addition to recognizing that sustainable development includes social equality -- and with it the eradication of poverty -- the magazines discusses the need to generate greater interaction and coordination between the government, civil society, and multilateral organizations, in order to transition to a more efficient economy that seeks to implement alternative energies and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

Franchini (Argentina), Associated Researcher for the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin American, in Argentina; Valeria Noboa Jaramillo (Ecuador), researcher for the project Yachay City of Knowledge of the National Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation in Ecuador; Fernando Malta (Brazil), advisor and coordinator of the Technical Chamber of Climate and Energy of the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development; and Sonia de Paola de Gathmann (Venezuela), Associate Director of GGKenergy and consultant for the Center for the Release of Economic Knowledge for the Freedom of Venezuela.
