Totalitarianism, ideology and culture

The VI conference of the Hannah Arendt Observatory about ''Totalitarianism, ideology and culture'' was held in Caracas. In this opportunity at the Universidad Metropolitana de Venezuela, having the CADAL Institutional participation, the Department of Political Studies of the Unviersidad Metropolitana, the Coordination of Liberal Studies of the Universidad Metropolitana, Graduated Coordination of Political Sciences of the Universidad Simón Bolívar, CENDES-UCV, Research Center of Communications of UCAB, and the support of the newspapers Tal Cual and El Nacional.

The topic of the conference was "The enshrinement of Politics. Policies Religions past and present", and participants were B. Sharifker, Alejandro Oropeza, Óscar Vallés, Luis Ugalde, Guillermo T. Aveledo, Humberto García Larralde, Miguel Ángel Martínez Meucci, Justo Morao, Gabriel Salvia, Michelle Ascencio, Ana Teresa Torres and Germán Carrera Damas.

The first panel was titled: "Religion and Politics: a difficult relationship in Modernity" and covered the following topics: "Politics as a problem for Religion","Religion as a policy problem" and "Nazi and Communist Totalitarianism".

The second panel about: "Political Religion in Latin America?” with the participation of Gabriel A. Salvia, General Director of CADAL, began with the screening of videos and then, it talked about "The Case of Peronism", "Myths, Politics and Popular Religiosity", "The Venezuelan democratic imaginary between politics and religion" and "The ideology of Bolivarianism-Militarism ".
