First Meeting of the Working Group on Haiti

On Friday, February 29, Gabriel Salvia - Chairman of CADAL - took part in the first meeting of the project ''Rebuilding Haiti. Strengthening the capabilities of Argentina for an efective cooperation''.

On Friday, February 29, Gabriel Salvia - Chairman of CADAL - took part in the first meeting of the project "Rebuilding Haiti. Strengthening the capabilities of Argentina for an efective cooperation". The activity was organized in Buenos Aires and was based on the discussion of two papers, the first one on "Thoughts for the analysis of political-institutional and economic-social matters in Haiti" and the other one was on "Economic Development and international cooperation in Haiti". Finally, the perspectives for the development of cooperation between Argentina and Haiti were discussed.

Among the participants were Miguel Lengyel, Valentín Thury Cornejo and Bernabé Malacalza, from FLACSO/Argentina; Bianca Antonini, former Under-director of Political Issues of United Nations for the Americas and Director of the Latin American Program at Centro Internacional de Toledo para la Paz; Fabián Calle, Professor at Universidad Católica Argentina and Universidad Torcuato Di Tella; Leonardo Franco, former Under-director of Latin American Politics at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina and currently serving at Inter-American Human Rights Court; Mónica Hirst, Professor at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella; Julia Levi, General Director of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina; Alejandro López Acotto and Federico Villalpando, from the Economics and Production Ministry; Horacio Sánchez Mariño, colonel of the Argentine Army and former Chief of Operations of MINUSTAH.

This project is part of the Program of Development, Innovation and Society at FLACSO/Argentina, started in July 2007, and has the support of the International Development Research Center of Canada.
