CADAL invited as associated institute to Proyecto Plataforma Democrática

The Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) was invited to be an associated institute to Proyecto Plataforma Democrática, a consortium formed by Instituto Fernando Henrique Cardoso (San Pablo, Brazil), Centro Edelstein de Investigaciones Sociales (Río de Janeiro, Brazil) and Fundación Democracia y Desarrollo (Santiago de Chile). The objective of Proyecto Plataforma Democrática is to create a plural space dedicated to strengthen Latin America's capability of taking part in an active and autonous way in the process of globalization through the production of knowledge, public debate and dialogue between diffferent sectors in society.

The objective of Proyecto Plataforma Democrática is to create a plural space dedicated to strengthen Latin America's capability of taking part in an active and autonous way in the process of globalization through the production of knowledge, public debate and dialogue between diffferent sectors in society. Proyecto Plataforma Democrática will work in promoting and strengthening democracy through the consolidation and improvement of institutions, capable of guaranteeing freedom of speech and association, the protection of human rights, the equilibrium between powers, the rights of political, etnical and religious minorities, governments transparency and honesty, the access to universal public goods and to overcome problems through dialogue with diverse sectors of society.

The project will have, from April 10, a website: www.plataformademocratica.org where it will be possible to find basic informations on most of the institutions and researchers working in Latin America on the subject of democracy (as for now there are 400 organizations. There will also be a virtual library with publications by the project as well as from the associated institutions, besides news on events and other activities of the project and its associates.
