CADAL will present the Development ranking in Punta del Este

Journalist Danilo Arbilla, economist Pablo Montaldo, lawyer Marcelo Loprete and CADAL's Director Gabriel Salvia, will be in charge of presenting the 2010 edition of the research report ''Democracy, Market and Transparency'' at the Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este. The event will take place at Boutique Hotel AWA on Thursday, January 13th.

Journalist Danilo Arbilla, economist Pablo Montaldo, lawyer Marcelo Loprete and CADAL's Director Gabriel Salvia, will be in charge of presenting the 2010 edition of the research report "Democracy, Market and Transparency" at the Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este.

The event will take place on Thursday, January 13th at 8pm, at Boutique Hotel AWA, at Avenue Pedragosa Sierra and San Ciro. The entrance is free, but there is a prior inscription needed at eventos@cadal.org

For the second year CADAL organizes Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este and in this occassion for the presentation of the ranking led by New Zealand and with Chile in the 16th position, Uruguay in the 22nd, Brazil in the 57th, Argentina in the 73rd and Venezuela in the 148th.

The report holds that the pillars of development are three: democratic freedoms, market economy and government transparency. In this sense, those countries that can be considered as developed must guarantee each and everyone of this facets necessary for political, economic and institutional progress.

This report is made with the data of the 2010 editions of the following publications: Freedom of the World, by Freedom House; Index of Economic Freedom by Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal; and Perception Corruption Index by Transparency International.

To analyze the performance of countries and regions this 2010 edition has articles by several of CADAL's analysts offering, as always, an article on Argentina - by Tristán Rodríguez Loredo, economic journalist - and Latin America, by Raúl Ferro, director of contents development at Business News Americas and former journalistic director of América Economía. Regarding the Latin American region, Héctor Leis and Eduardo Viola, professors at Universidad de Santa Catarina and Brasilia, respectively, refer to the performance of Brazil, considered by public opinion as one of the new global stars.

On this occassion, there is also a profound analysis by Pablo Guido, political scientists and doctor on Economics, on the performance of the European countries after the economic crisis suffered in the Old Continent; and a critical valoration of China's performance and the challenges of its model for the ideals of development, by journalist Pablo Díaz de Brito, specialized on international policy.

On the speakers at the Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este, Danilo Arbilla has been founder of the influential Uruguaian weekly Busqueda, he was chairman of Inter American Press Association (IAPA) and writes for several media outlets on Latin American politics. Pablo Montaldo, is economist and businessman, currently chairman of the Stock Exchange of Uruguay. Marcelo Loprete is consultant of companies, professor at Universidad Austral and member of CADAL's Advisory Council. Finally, Gabriel Salvia is journalist, founder and General Director of CADAL, and co-editor with Hernán Alberro of the Research Report "Democracy, Market and Transparency".
