Since Federal Representative Héctor Piemonte was not able to participate in the Award Ceremony, Hernán Alberro, Programs Director of CADAL, met with him in his office in the Congress to congratulate him and discuss on the initiative.
Related to the publication of CADAL's Document number 122 on “The access to public information of Argentine legislators”, the Executive Committee decided to ask its authors to give awards and special mentions for legislative transparency 2011, in a ceremony that took place on september 2. The award was granted to senator María Eugenia Estenssoro and the special mentions were for her coleagues of the Senate Gerardo Morales and Sonia Escudero, and representatives Laura Alonso and Héctor Piemonte.
Héctor Piemonte, Federal Representative, Coalición Cívica/Provincia de Buenos Aires, was recognized with a Special Mention for Legislative Transparency 2011 for detailing in his website the schollarships and subsidies he gives a way, his staff and his declaration of assets since he became a Congressman in 2009.
Since he was not able to attend on September 2, Representative Piemonte sent a letter where he expressed his "satisfaction for being recognized with a special mention for legislative transparency for his work in the Congress. I am proud for this acknowledgement since whenever I was in charge of a public office - I also served as legislator of the province of Buenos Aires - I made a special effort in allowing public access to all the actions and initiatives. I gather that transparency in the public office not only helps in the evaluation of the performance of an officer, but also, contributes to recover the social value of politics, thus improving and strengthening democracy".
The congressman concluded pointing out that: "I thank you for the report you published since it allows us to incorporate ideas and elements of work in order to continue consolidating a transparent legislative work", something he already set into action adding the CV of his staff and the contact information of his press attaché, according to what he informed to Hernan Alberro, Programs Director of CADAL.
