From September 3rd through September 5th, executives from all over Latin America will meet in Buenos Aires to participate in the second Latin American Symposium on Non-Traditional Gas and Oil. The objective is to discuss possible solutions for the mass development of these resources, emphasizing the challenges posed by technology, human resources, regulations, capital, and the development of supply chains.
For María Benintende, the Project Manager for the Informa Group and coordinator of the meeting, “the symposium promises to generate deep and critical discussions, beginning with analyses from experts in the sectors and offering inside information and facts on non-traditional material in countries with great potential in the region.” Participating in the meeting are operating companies, service companies, providers of equipment and materials, members of academia, consultants, regulation agencies, large consumers of energy, and representatives from the government as well as from class associations from all over Latin America.
The first day of the symposium will be dedicated to discussions on the developmental policies of non-traditional gas and oil, which are being implemented by governments and operators. Eduardo R. Zapata, director of the degree program for the legal-economic structure of energy regulation at the University of Buenos Aires, will analyze the production of hydrocarbons in non-traditional deposits in Argentina, and Gabriel Pablo Vendrell, president of ACIGRA, will discuss the provision of gas to industries.
Regarding affairs in Argentina, the symposium program includes a panel discussion highlighting the effects of the law 26741 on non-traditional resources. The participants include Marcos Rebasa, a specialist of public services and energy; Julio Cesar Fonrouge, a specialist of administrative law, oil, and gas and the director of the JP O’Farrell law firm; Albarracín Santiago F., a lawyer for LLM Resources Law and Policy, and Andrés Nicolás Sabatini from the legal department at Apache Energy.
Participants representing the rest of Latin America will be at the event as well, including, among others, Verónica Vásquez Hurtado, Associate Director of IHS Cera; Gustavo Hernández García, Assistant Director of Planning and Evaluation of PEMEX; Lisandro Rojas, Exploration Manager of ENAP; Orlando Cabrales Segovia, President of the Colombian Agency of Hydrocarbons, and Ricardo Pinto from the Brazilian Association of Industrial Consumers of Energy.
The second day of the event will focus on technical presentations about exploration, completion, the stimulation and production of gas and oil in non-traditional deposits, and will include the experts Schlumberger, Pan American, and Weatherford. Another important event on the agenda for that day is the panel discussion on the logistic challenges and the development of suppliers that is needed in order to meet the significant demand that cannot be fulfilled by traditional means.
The Symposium will close its program on September 5th with a workshop on operational risk-control in the exploration and production of non-traditional gas and oil.
The second edition of the Latin American Symposium on Non-Traditional Gas receives institutional support from the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL), and is sponsored by IBC with additional support from Acigra, APPMA, Interame, CADAL, and CBHE.
