Reflections on the electoral landscape in Argentina
Eight weeks before the presidential elections, the Regional Democracy Program and Political Parties in Latin America asked the journalist Jaime Rosemberg and the Chairman of CADAL, Gabriel Salvia, to reflect on the current political context of Argentina.
Dr. Kristin Wesemann, Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s office in Montevideo, welcomed the visitors of the conference, especially thanked Gabriel Salvia, Chairman and CEO of the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL), Jaime Rosemberg, journalist editor of the political section of the newspaper “La Nación” since 2002, and the moderator of the activity Tomas Linn, magazine columnist of “Búsqueda” since 1989.
The history of elections in Argentina from 1983 till today, including the constitutional reform of 1994, was conducted by Gabriel Salvia. He based his speech on the research of the publication “A political balance 30 years after the return to democracy in Argentina”, published by CADAL and Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Argentina.
Jaime Rosemberg, from his experience as editor of the political section of the newspaper “La Nación” and its subsequent coverage for the party Pro, referred to the current electoral panorama overlooking the elections.
