Uruguay facing a historical election

A new meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires took place at the Czech Embassy with a presentation by Nelson Fernández on the political and economic perspectives of Uruguay in face of the open primaries that take place on June 28 in Uruguay and that will give as a result the presidential candidates that will run on October 25.

A new meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires took place at the Czech Embassy with a presentation by Nelson Fernández on the political and economic perspectives of Uruguay in face of the open primaries that take place on June 28 in Uruguay and that will give as a result the presidential candidates that will run on October 25. Fernández analyzed the presidencial change in a competition between tupamaros, liberals and socialdemocrats; the impact of the crisis and drought, the profile of political parties and their candidates; electoral persepectives for the primaries of next June 28 in each party; electoral projections in the run for the presidency and the control of the Parliament.

Nelson Fernández is journalist since March 1981 and he has worked as a journalist in newspapers, weeklies, radios and foreign correpondancies. He is economic analist from Instituto de Economía de Montevideo (IDEM). He serves as correspondant in Uruguay for La Nación newspaper from Buenos Aires. He is columnist on politics and economics for the newspaper "El Observador" from Montevideo and in the show "Tiempo Presente" at 770am Radio Oriental. He is Director of news programs of cable station Nuevo Siglo TV. He is professor of "Journalism" at Universidad Católica del Uruguay. In December 2004 he published the book "Quién es quién en El gobierno de la Izquierda" and in December 2008 he published the book "¡Maldita Crisis!" (Editorial "Fin de Siglo"). He is CADAL's officer in Uruguay.
