Democracy in Latin America

On Friday, August 22, 2008 CADAL organized at Communications College at Universidad Austral, the seminar ''Democracy in Latin America'', with Patricio Navia, Tomás Linn, Carlos Gervasoni and Fernando Ruiz as guest speakers.

On Friday, August 22, 2008 CADAL organized at Communications College at Universidad Austral, the seminar "Democracy in Latin America", with Patricio Navia, Tomás Linn, Carlos Gervasoni and Fernando Ruiz as guest speakers.

The seminar began with a presentation of "Journalism and Democracy Indicators" by Fernando Ruiz, Professor of Communications College at Universidad Austral, Doctor in Public Communications at Universidad de Navarra and author of several books on the subject.

The first part was completed by a presentation on "The third democratization wave in Latin America: a balance", in charge of Carlos Gervasoni, Professor at Universidad Católica Argentina, Ph.D. candidate at University of Notre Dame and Master at Stanford University. Gervasoni was chairman of CADAL (2003/2004) and he is currently member of her Academic Council.

In the second panel, Patricio Navia gave a presentation on "Democratic Governance: Institutions and Leaderships". Navia is Professor at New York University and Universidad Diego Portales, he holds a Ph.D. in Political Science (NYU) and Master of Arts in the same field from University of Chicago. He is member of CADAL's Academic Council.

Conclusions of the seminar were in charge of Tomás Linn, journalist of the Uruguaian weekly "Búsqueda" and author of the book "Así concebidas: Nuestras democracias imperfectas" (Editorial Fin de Siglo), recently published.
