2018 Bertelsmann Transformation Index Presented in Montevideo
With support from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Montevideo Latin American Forum was held at the University of Montevideo Business School. The event’s speakers included Senior Project Manager at the Bertelsmann Foundation Hauke Harmann; researcher and professor at UDELAR’s Political Science Institute Daniel Chasquetti; and Senior Manager at CPA Ferrere’s Economics Department Alfonso Capurro.
The Bertelsmann Stiftung Transformation Index (BTI) analyzes whether and how developing countries are directing social change toward democracy and a market economy. Experts from 129 countries, who are guided by a list of standardized codes, evaluate to what degree 17 different criteria are met.
The event began with a presentation by Hauke Hartmann on the methodology behind the 2018 Transformation Index and the global trends that were identified.
Next, political scientist Daniel Chasquetti presented an analysis of Uruguay’s performance in the 2018 Transformation Index.
The event closed with a presentation by Alfonso Capurro, who spoke about the challenges Uruguay faces as it pursues economic transformation.
