Presentation of the 2024 edition of the Graciela Fernández Meijide Award
For the second consecutive year, the Award named after the prominent Argentine human rights activist and former secretary of the National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons (CONADEP) was presented. This year’s winners were two activists from Venezuela and one organization from Mexico. One organization from Colombia received a special mention.
The ceremony took place as part of the Conference on the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarianism and was declared of interest for the defense and promotion of human rights in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires thanks to a project presented by Buenos Aires legislators Sebastián Nagata, Graciela Ocaña and María Sol Méndez.
Vicente Palermo, one of the three members of the Award jury, presented the special mention to the Trípido Foundation from Colombia, which was received by Diana Arévalo.
Pamela Malewicz, Undersecretary of Democratic Culture and Human Rights of the City of Buenos Aires, presented the plaque for Venezuelan activist Javier Tarazona, who is in political prison, to Rigoberto Lobo.
Jury member Norma Morandini presented the plaque to FUNDAREDES Venezuelan activist Clara Ramirez.
Rubén Chababo, the third member of the jury, to the representative of the Mexican organization Brigada Nacional de Búsqueda, Juan Carlos Trujillo.
