Juan Pablo Cardenal is an associated researcher for CADAL. Between 2003 and 2014, he worked as a correspondent in China for various Spanish newspapers. Since 2009, he is specializing in the international expansion of the Asian giant. During this time, he investigated this phenomenon in more than 40 countries on four continents conducting more than a thousand personal interviews with the goal of understanding the consequences of China's foreign investments in the countries where they have occurred. He co-wrote three books with fellow investigator Heriberto Araújo, which show the results of his research, including "La silenciosa conquista china" in 2011 and "La imparable conquista china" in 2015. Both books are critically acclaimed and translated into 11 languages. Furthermore, Cardenal gave several speeches in different international institutions on this issue and published various articles in newspapers like El País, El Mundo, The New York Times and the South China Morning Post.
